Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a system of healthcare that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing health problems by moving, stretching, and massaging a person’s muscles and joints.
At its core:
It’s based on the principle that the body’s structure (bones, muscles, ligaments, connective tissues) and its function (how well it works) are closely connected.
Osteopaths use their hands to improve mobility, relieve tension, enhance blood flow, and help the body heal itself.
It’s most often used for musculoskeletal issues such as back pain, neck pain, joint pain, headaches related to muscle tension, and posture-related problems.
Massage
Massage is a therapeutic practice that involves the manual manipulation of soft tissues—muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia—using various techniques such as rubbing, kneading, pressing, or stretching.
At its core:
It helps reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation.
Techniques can range from light and gentle (for relaxation and stress relief) to deep and targeted (for pain, stiffness, or injury recovery).
Massage is often used for relieving stress, easing pain, improving flexibility, supporting injury rehabilitation, and enhancing overall well-being.
Total Body Adjustment
A total body adjustment is a treatment approach where the practitioner works through the entire body—joints, muscles, and connective tissues—to restore balance, mobility, and alignment. Instead of focusing only on one painful spot, the treatment looks at the body as a whole, addressing areas that may be restricted or compensating for other problems. The goal is to improve posture, ease tension, enhance circulation and nerve function, and support the body’s natural ability to heal.
HVLA (High Velocity, Low Amplitude)
One of the techniques often used during a total body adjustment is called HVLA manipulation. This stands for High Velocity, Low Amplitude. It’s a precise, quick movement applied to a joint through a small range of motion. The purpose is to restore normal movement where the joint has become stiff or restricted. Sometimes, this can produce a “click” or “pop” sound, which is simply gas being released from the joint—similar to cracking your knuckles.
HVLA is safe when performed by a trained practitioner and is commonly used to relieve pain, improve mobility, and reduce muscle tension.
